Mass. Health Scorecard: A+ On Insurance And Treatment But Not On Cost

Sometimes report cards just confirm what we already pretty much know but still provide useful quantification — "Wow, I really am at the top of my class in math and at the bottom in English."

So it is with the Commonwealth Fund's new "Scorecard on Local Health System Performance," a wealth of abundance for the data-inclined. When I cast my provincial eye upon it, I determined that as expected, Massachusetts ranks tops on health insurance and on many other health and medical treatment measures, but is closer to middling on keeping costs down and keeping people out of the hospital and emergency room.
