Spinal cord stimulators are touted as a newer, safer way to manage pain disorders rather than relying on opioids. But some patients complain that stimulators have done them far more harm then good.
A new report from the Associated Press and the International Consortium of Journalism found the stimulators are among the leading cause of injuries by medical devices. They have caused burns and even paralysis.
Dr. Ian Meredith, chief global medical officer for Boston Scientific, one of the nations's biggest spinal cord stimulator manufacturer, joined Morning Edition to talk about the study.
