In Worcester, State's Only Residential Addiction Treatment Center For Adolescent Girls Closes

The state's one only residential addiction treatment center for adolescent girls, located in Worcester, was abruptly closed earlier this week.

The Telegram & Gazette reported the Highland Grace House was shuttered by its parent organization, Community Healthlink. The organization, which is part of UMass Memorial Health Care, said the 12-bed program for teen girls was underutilized, making it financially unsustainable.

Sarah Loy, a spokeswoman for Community Healthlink, said the voluntary nature of the program made it challenging to keep the home full.

The move comes a year after Community Healthlink closed the Burncoat Family Center residential treatment program for children with serious emotional disorders.

Loy says the Community Healthlink is committed to helping find the state at Highland Grace House other positions in the organization.
