There Are Now 6,000 People Dead From COVID-19 In Mass.

Massachusetts has lost more than 6,000 people to COVID-19, according to the latest figures out Wednesday.

Data released from the Department of Public Health show 6,066 people have died from COVID-19. More than 88,970 people have been diagnosed with the disease.

The average number of new deaths reported each day has declined since a peak in late April, when the state was reporting 175 more people dead from COVID-19 each day. As of Wednesday, the average number of deaths reported each day this week is 107. (For more details on the latest death, case and testing counts, see our charts and map.)

More than 60% of the deaths have been at long-term care facilities, which include nursing homes, assisted-living residences and rest homes.

The death toll hit 5,000 people dead nine days ago, and 4,000 dead eight days before that.
