I really enjoyed your story about the idle freight cars in New Castle, IN. My husband and I traveled to my hometown in rural KY over the holidays and saw the same phenomenon. Attached are some photos tat my husband took. These train cars did not bisect a town like the cars in your story but it was a very obvious and very sad reminder of what's been going on with the economy. However, they were also kind
of beautiful, tracing the lines of the rolling hills that I love. My father tells me that there are about seven miles of train cars in the area surrounding my town.
