A Reprimand for Joe Wilson?

Congress is expected to hold a vote to pass a resolution of disapproval today against South Carolina's Joe Wilson, the Republican congressman who shouted "you lie" during President Obama's healthcare speech to Congress last week. We speak with Jonathan Allen, reporter for Congressional Quarterly.

Rethinking Higher Education

Professor Jose Antonio Bowen of Southern Methodist University has a plea for his colleagues. Strip technology out of your classroom, put your lecture online, or make it a podcast, so you can really use that precious face to face time in class to teach. And Mark Bauerlein says that the tenure system is forcing young professors to write studies without giving them time to think. He says focus back on teaching by rewarding good teachers. Bauerlein is professor of English at Emory University.

Remembering 'Norma Rae'

Chrystal Lee Sutton, the real life inspiration for the 1979 blockbuster "Norma Rae", has died at the age of 68. The pioneering labor rights activist donated all the letters and papers she accumulated during her activism to Alamance Community College in Graham, North Carolina, where Sutton had studied nursing in the 1980's. We speak to ACC professor of history and friend of Ms. Sutton's, Sherri Singer.

Chronic Disease on the Rise in Africa

Malaria kills around a million people each year, and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, around 90% of those deaths are in Africa. Diarrhea, tuberculosis and starvation are also leading killers in Africa. But what about heart disease, diabetes and obesity — lifestyle illnesses associated with developed countries. Dr. Michelle Holmes is an associate professor at Harvard's School of Public Health and she says that not enough attention is paid to chronic diseases in Africa.
