Expert Tips To Make Your Pool Safer

After a recent spate of high-profile drownings this summer, we spoke with lifeguarding consultant Francesco Pia about how to keep your pool safe. Here are some of his water safety tips:
- 1. A pool should be fenced in with a fence at least four feet high and without spaces longer than four inches at any juncture.
- 2. The fence should include a self-closing, self-latching gate and a child-proof lock.
- 3. Keep toys off the deck of the pool. They attract children.
- 4. Use 'touch supervision' — whenever a child is in the water, an adult should be in the water, too, close enough to be able to reach out and touch the child.
