Why did so many of the nation's top economists miss the financial meltdown? Gerald Epstein, chair of the economics department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, says part of the problem is that the judgment of many economists may have been clouded by financial interests. Epstein says that in addition to economists' academic duties, many also serve as consultants to financial firms. Epstein joins us to talk about his call for new ethical standards for economists.

This segment aired on November 23, 2010.
