President Obama travels to Manitowoc, Wisconsin today to promote his State of the Union message of creating jobs and spurring innovation.

The president will tour Orion Energy Systems, a renewable energy tech company. But if he wanted to learn about the ups and downs of doing business in China, the President could visit the Manitowoc Company on the shores of Lake Michigan.

The firm, which makes industrial cranes and food service equipment, has been doing business in China since the early 1990's with mixed results.  We speak with financial reporter Howard Schneider, who profiled the Manitowoc Company for the Washington Post.

This segment aired on January 26, 2011.
