Medicare Debate Pulls National Money To Local NY Race

New York's 26th Congressional district has long been considered a safe seat for the Republican party, but in a special election to be held tomorrow, Democrat Kathy Hochul has pulled ahead of Republican Jane L. Corwin.

Corwin's once comfortable lead vanished as voters reacted to her strong support for the Republican plan to overhaul Medicare, with voters calling it the most important issue in deciding their votes. As the race narrows, it's drawn national attention from Republican and Democratic party leaders Both parties see the outcome affecting the national debate on Medicare and budget cuts.
