Thousands of additional police will be on the streets of London Tuesday night as riots engulfed many of London's neighborhoods. There has also been violence in Birmingham and Liverpool.

"I knew we were in for a rough night here in Stoke Newington in the London Borough of Hackney when my wife called me at 5 p.m. from Sainsbury's, our local supermarket, to say she was in a lock down," Michael Goldfarb, a journalist for GlobalPost, wrote.

The riots started Saturday night after a peaceful protest over the police shooting of a young black man. Prime Minister David Cameron has returned to London to address the riots and also recalled Parliament.
