There's more violence across Syria, as the ceasefire that's not really a ceasefire continues to be violated.

Syrian forces fired tear gas and live ammunition to disperse thousands of protesters calling for president Bashar al Assad's ouster, killing two people in the northern city of Aleppo.

And today there are more questions now about the role of al Qaeda in the uprising, which is now more than 14 months old.

The Syrian government says the militant group was responsible for a car bombing in Damascus earlier this month that killed 50 people.

Access to Syria is restricted, but the BBC's Paul Wood was able to get in, and he has this report on the influence of islamists in the fighting.

This segment aired on May 25, 2012.
