First, Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, pulled her name off the list of potential Secretary of State nominees.

Now Chuck Hagel, the former Republican senator, is facing criticism even before President Barack Obama nominates him to be Secretary of Defense.

Critics say he wasn't strong enough in his support for Israel when he was in the Senate, and some Republicans believe he wasn't really a Republican by the time he left the Senate.
