Money Pours Into GMO Labeling Ballot Initiative
ResumeIn Washington state, the issue of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) is the hottest topic on this year's ballot.
If approved by voters, the measure — Initiative 522 — would require labeling on raw or processed food containing genetically modified ingredients.
Support and opposition campaigns have spent millions of dollars. Agribusiness and the food industry have pumped in a record $17 million so far to defeat Initiative 522.
A poll conducted yesterday shows momentum has shifted against the measure, but supporters still hold a slight lead.
From the Here & Now Contributors Network, Austin Jenkins of the Northwest News Network reports on the politics of GMO labeling.
