Two Spanish newspapers reported today that the National Security Agency collected data on millions of telephone calls in Spain.

They cited documents leaked to journalist Glenn Greenwald by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.

As this news was breaking, a delegation of lawmakers from the European Union were on their way to Washington, where they'll be meeting with senior government and intelligence officials.

NSA collection of French phone records and monitoring of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's cell phone will be the topic of those conversations.
