New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie coasted to a major victory in a state with a strong Democratic majority, winning over a majority of the state's women voters and large shares of minority and young voters — groups that the Republican Party has struggle to win over nationally.

The victory puts Christie in the lead for the Republican presidential race. Christie is a conservative but he has clashed with fellow conservatives for what he says is their choice of ideology over pragmatism.
