General Motors has chosen Mary Barra as its new CEO. Barra started working at GM as an electrical engineering co-op student in 1980 and moved up the ranks. She currently heads the company's product development division.

Barra, 51, will be the first woman to lead a U.S. car company. The decision comes one day after the government sold its last shares of GM.

Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson speaks with journalist Micheline Maynard about Barra.
