Many people in Colorado will remember 2013 as the year when mother nature struck with a vengeance. Wildfires, drought and floods plagued the state. But September’s deluge was catastrophic — climatologists called it a 500 year event. Water swept away highways, homes and killed nine people.

From the Here & Now Contributors Network, Lesley McClurg of Colorado Public Radio checked in with flood victims who are trying to get back on their feet.
