Avalanches Sever Road To Alaska’s Snowiest Town

While states across the "lower 48" have been facing record low temperatures, parts of Alaska are unusually warm. That can be a bad thing.

Heavy rain and melting snow in the port city of Valdez have triggered large avalanches that covered the only road out of town. The highway is expected to be impassable for at least another week.

Tony Gorman, news director of the Valdez public radio station KCHU, speaks with Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson about how the town is coping.
