Positive and negative reactions are pouring in after Washington governor Jay Inslee decided to impose a de facto moratorium on the death penalty, even though capital punishment is legal in the state.

His announcement yesterday follows a similar move by Colorado’s governor last year and Oregon’s governor in 2011.

Citing flaws in the system, Inslee says he won’t sign death warrants for condemned killers who face execution. Instead he’ll give them a reprieve.

From the Here & Now Contributors Network, Jessica Robinson of the Northwest News Network has the story reported by Austin Jenkins.
