CBO Report: Minimum Wage Increase Would Have Mixed Effects
ResumeIn a report released on Tuesday, the Congressional Budget Office concluded that raising the minimum wage to $10.10 would increase the income of 16.5 million low-wage workers, benefiting families and lifting them out of poverty.
However, the report also concluded that the Democratic proposal, championed by President Obama, could reduce total employment by 500,000 workers by the second half of 2016.
NPR's Marilyn Geewax joins Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson to discuss this mixed assessment, and how both critics and supporters of the proposal are reacting to the findings.
