Germany Reaches Deal On Minimum Wage06:58

This article is more than 6 years old.

The U.S. isn't alone when it comes to a tug of war over the minimum wage. It's also happening in Germany, where as a condition of forming a coalition government with the Social Democrats, Chancellor Angela Merkel has agreed to implement a minimum wage there, as of 2015.

It will be €8.50 an hour, which is about $ 11.50 in U.S. dollars. There are concerns in Germany, just like there are in the U.S., about the consequences of that. The BBC's Steve Evans reports from Berlin.

This segment aired on February 20, 2014.
