ResumeAfter 58 years of serving in Congress, Rep. John Dingell of Colorado has announced his retirement. At age 87, Dingell is the longest-serving member of Congress in history, and in recent years has bemoaned the lack of cooperation and compromise in the House.
Meantime, President Obama is looking for allies among America’s governors this week. On Monday, the president will meet with members of the National Governors Association and attempt to enlist both Republicans and Democrats in his efforts to make real progress on several key issues.
Also this week, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel plans to shrink the U.S. Army to its smallest force since before World War II. NPR’s Charles Mahtesian discusses these and other political stories with Here & Now's Meghna Chakrabarti.
