Ukraine's parliament has selected a new prime minister. Arseniy Yatsenyuk says his country doesn't want a fight with Russia, but he insists Ukraine wouldn't accept the secession of the southern Crimea region, where gunmen today occupied local government buildings and raised the Russian flag.

Meanwhile, Russia media say fugitive Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has been given refuge in Russia, after he asked Moscow for protection. Russian media say he's staying in a Kremlin sanatorium just outside Moscow.

The BBC's Mark Lowen reports from Crimea.
