Sexual Assault Trial Of Army General Begins

Opening statements are being heard today in the case of the most senior member of the U.S. military ever to face trial on sexual assault charges.

Brigadier General Jeffrey Sinclair pleaded guilty yesterday to having improper relationships with two female army officers and to committing the military crime of adultery.

But he still faces five other charges of forced sexual relations. Those charges could put him in prison for life. The Army is also investigating its top sex crimes prosecutor for groping a female lawyer at a sexual assault conference three years ago.

Meantime, Congress is divided over how to change the way the military handles sexual assault cases.
