This Week In Politics: Equal Pay For Women And Unemployment Benefits06:11

This article is more than 5 years old.

This week, President Obama is expected to sign two new executive orders on equal pay for women. Respectively, the orders would prohibit federal contractors from retaliating against employees who share their salary information with each other, and require them to report wage-related data to the government.

Also this week, the Senate is expected to pass a bipartisan bill to restore long-term unemployment benefits that were allowed to expire in December.

Meanwhile, the House will vote on Paul Ryan’s budget, which will likely split the parties and provide campaign fodder for both parties going forward.

NPR’s senior Washington editor Ron Elving discusses these and more stories for the week in politics with Here & Now's Robin Young.

This segment aired on April 7, 2014.
