Young Students Become Immersed in Mandarin

Research shows that students who learn a foreign language at a young age perform better in their native language, and in other subjects like math and science. It also can help them later in life when they enter the workforce.

But most students in the U.S. don't learn a foreign language until they enter high school. Language immersion programs have tried to change that.

Reporter Stina Sieg from Here & Now contributing station KJZZ visited a public elementary school in Arizona where students are immersed in Mandarin.
