This week marks the moment when the people of Bosnia — indeed many people around the world — will commemorate a death, exactly 100 years ago. It was the assassination, in Sarajevo, of Archduke Franz Ferdinand — and the trigger for the outbreak of World War One.

But the city authorities in the Bosnian capital seem confused about how to make the most of this centenary. It's overshadowed by more recent history: the blood-soaked conflict between Serbs, Croats and Muslims in the 1990s — a conflict that has left deep scars.

The BBC's Dan Damon reported extensively on that civil war and is back in Sarajevo for us today.
