Voters in Scotland will head to the polls in September to answer a simple question: Should Scotland be an independent country? A "yes" answer would break the 300-year union that unites Britain, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, the United Kingdom.

There are various arguments for and against independence, but the one thing just about everyone agrees on is the importance of oil from the North Sea in the debate. The BBC's Owen Bennett Jones brings us this report.
