Last night was a fierce night of attacks on Gaza. Israel stepped up strikes there after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that this may be a prolonged war.

The Israeli army claimed it hit "over 70 terror sites throughout the Gaza Strip." The targets hit include the only power plant supplying electricity to the Gaza Strip.

The United Nations has said that at least a tenth of all residents have been internally displaced to UNRWA shelters in Gaza.

NPR’s Emily Harris is in Gaza and speaks with Here & Now's Robin Young about the damage after last night’s attacks, how Palestinians in Gaza are celebrating the major Muslim holiday of Eid and the latest on ceasefire talks.
