Colorado Democrat Rep. Jared Polis is pushing a statewide ballot initiative that restricts oil and gas fracking locations in ways that the industry says would make drilling virtually impossible in the state.

Vulnerable Colorado Democrats up for re-election in November, such as Senator Mark Udall, are worried the ballot question will bring Republican opponents out to the polls to vote. If Udall loses, the Democrats could lose control of the Senate in Washington.

Voter signatures for two ballot questions that Congressman Polis is supporting are due on Monday.
