Kurds Make Some Gains In Fight Against ISIS In Iraq04:02

This article is more than 6 years old.

While the militants of the self-proclaimed Islamic State, also known as ISIS, further entrenched their position in Syria on Sunday by seizing the last government stronghold in the eastern Raqqa province, Kurdish Peshmerga forces have driven the Islamic militants out of villages to the northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

They've also been making progress in recapturing positions they lost to the sudden Islamist onslaught earlier this month, southeast of Mosul in northern Iraq. The BBC’s Jim Muir has been to the town of Baqarta, and says it's now firmly back in Kurdish hands.
