The militant group the Islamic State is claiming to have beheaded a second American journalist, Steven Sotloff, who was kidnapped in Syria over a year ago. The SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors jihadist groups, says the ISIS fighter in the video is the same British man who appeared in the video showing the beheading of American journalist James Foley last month.

Meantime, a member of the Somali Islamic extremist group Al-Shabab says their leader Ahmed Abdi Godane was in a convoy of trucks hit in an American missile strike in Somalia last night. But neither the group nor the Pentagon is saying whether Godane, who has a $7 million government ransom on his head, is dead.

John Walcott joins Here & Now's Robin Young to discuss these two stories.
