Negotiations between Iran and six world powers over Iran's nuclear program resume Friday in New York.

The latest talks are aimed at giving Iran relief from sanctions, if Iran accepts strict limits intended to keep it from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

The last negotiations ended in July, with only an agreement to keep trying for a few more months.

NPR's Steve Inskeep sat down with Iran's foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is in New York for those nuclear negotiations and for the UN General Assembly next week.

This segment aired on September 17, 2014.
