Here & Now’s Jeremy Hobson also visited the Edgerton Memorial United Methodist Church in Selma, North Carolina, about 30 miles outside Raleigh, where he visited the Pullen Church.

Edgerton Memorial is a little less than half full and in a town where 30 percent live below the poverty line. Perhaps it's not surprising that one of the first orders of business is an announcement that the church may end the year $10,000 in the hole. The treasurer says tough choices will have to be made.

Jeremy speaks to the church's pastor, Josh Kurtz, and members of the congregation about what issues matter to them in the upcoming midterms.

This segment aired on October 6, 2014.
