D.C. Residents Have High Hopes For Bridge Park
PlayThere are plans to design a massive new civic space in the nation’s capital called the 11th Street Bridge Park. The new park will span the Anacostia River, along a dividing line between prosperity and poverty in D.C.
West of the river, economic progress is easy to find. East of the river you’ll find a mostly African American neighborhoods – and a place that’s been filled with poverty and empty of opportunity since the 1960s.
From the Here & Now Contributors Network, Jonathan Wilson of WAMU has the story of why so many people in and around Anacostia see the proposed park as the key to turning things around.
