Wolf Spotted In Grand Canyon Could Be Gray Wolf
ResumeA lone wolf wearing a radio collar has been spotted at the Northern Rim of the Grand Canyon a number of times in the past few weeks. Biologists believe it might be a gray wolf.
If so, it would be the first sighting in the national park in 70 years.
Wolf expert Rolf Peterson, a professor at Michigan Tech University told Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson, "the Northern Rim of the Grand Canyon needs wolves," especially because "we did a very good jobs of getting rid of wolves in the 20s."
Peterson, who says lone wolves often travel long distances from their packs, but if it is a gray wolf, the sighting would be significant, but "it’s a little premature to declare the wolf totally recovered.”
