Resume

Americans bought about 33 million Christmas trees last year, according to the National Christmas Tree Association. The majority of those were pre-cut and bought on a tree lot.

Here & Now's Peter O'Dowd took a trip to North Andover, Mass., where some of those trees are grown. Farmer Michael Smolack told him that what kind of tree you pick likely depends on where you live.

A crew unloads a truckload of 800 fir trees at Smolack Farms in North Andover, Mass. The farm can't grow its own trees fast enough, so the rest are shipped in from Quebec. (Peter O'Dowd/Here & Now)
