President Obama today is urging Congress to pass a bill to give millions of workers the chance to earn paid sick time. He's also directing federal agencies to give their employees up to six weeks of paid maternity or paternity leave.

Meanwhile, House Republicans are moving to redefine what constitutes a full-time work week, so that under the Affordable Care Act, employers would only be required to provide health insurance to employees working 40 hours a week or more, rather than 30.

Here & Now's Robin Young talks to Jared Bernstein, senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and a former member of President Obama's economics team, about the president's proposal and where the U.S. fits into the international picture when it comes to work and paid leave policies.
