Despite sanctions and recession rocking the Russian economy, Vladimir Putin enjoys an overwhelming 86 percent approval rating among Russian citizens.

Just a few outspoken critics of his administration remain, including Ilya Ponomarev, the sole member of the Russian parliament to vote against the annexation of Crimea.

Effectively exiled from his home country, Ponomarev is attending a four-day conference on Russia at Tufts University near Boston. He joins Here & Now's Meghna Chakrabarti to discuss a Russia that he sees as not so different from America.
