It’s not easy being an actor of color on U.S. network TV, and to be an international star presents a unique set of challenges to actors hoping to make it in the U.S.

But these days, whether an actor is from the U.S. or not matters less to audiences than the quality of the show itself.

NPR TV critic Eric Deggans joins Here & Now’s Robin Young to talk about the successful careers of actors Priyanka Chopra, Sofia Vergara and others who have made names for themselves in the U.S.
