As the founder of Yahoo Tech, a former New York Times Tech columnist and the author of dozens of books including "Pogue's Basics: Essential Tips and Shortcuts (That No One Bothers to Tell You) for Simplifying the Technology in Your Life," David Pogue is used to answering gadget questions.

In his latest book, "Pogue's Basics: Life," David Pogue takes on those annoying little questions that come up day-to-day. For example: how do I clean my microwave? What do I do if I lose my reading glasses?

These are the kind of things that have been dubbed "life hacks," though as Pogue tells Here & Now's Indria Lakshmanan, "that term has gotten a bad name online because over half of them just don't work!"

Hence the subtitle of his new book: "Essential Tips and Shortcuts (That No One Bothers to Tell You) for Simplifying Your Day."
