Controversy has erupted in August County, Virginia this week after students and parents complained about a world geography assignment at Riverheads High School. Veteran teacher Cheryl LaPorte had students write an Arabic calligraphy phrase that translates to "There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah."

Schools are shut down today after a number of emails and phone calls have come in, Staunton News Leader education reporter Megan Williams tells Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson.
