Today France's top administrative court overturned one town's controversial ban on full-body swimsuits designed to accommodate Muslim women on the beach. The ruling in the Riviera town of Villeneuve-Loubet sets a precedent that threatens similar bans in dozens of French cities, but at least one mayor has already vowed to fight the court's decision.

So-called "burkini bans" have sparked outrage around the world, after a photograph of police apparently forcing a woman to disrobe on the Promenade des Anglais beach in Nice went viral this week.

Here & Now's Meghna Chakrabarti discusses the ban and its extraordinary resonance online with Femi Oke, who hosts "The Stream" on Al Jazeera English.
