As the president-elect continues to make nominations to his cabinet, we're getting a clearer picture of how Donald Trump will govern. But how will the Trump administration affect arts and culture in the United States?

Beyond the National Endowment for the Arts, whose budget totaled about $148 million this year, the federal government doesn't have much direct influence on the arts. There are, however, lots of policies that would affect the arts indirectly, from community development block grants in the Department of Housing and Urban Development to simply how the president talks about art and pop culture.

Here & Now's Robin Young sizes up what Trump might mean for the arts with Robert Lynch (@ArtsCEOLynch), president of the nonprofit arts advocacy group Americans for the Arts.

Editor's Note: Lynch's wife, Dianne Brace, works for NPR as executive director of institutional giving.

This segment aired on December 13, 2016.
