Why Convictions In Oregon Don't Require A Unanimous Jury

In all but two states, jury verdicts must be unanimous for felony convictions. If just one juror believes a defendant is not guilty, the case is dismissed.

But that's not the case in Oregon, where prosecutors need just 10 out of 12 jurors to win their case. An Oregon judge will soon decide whether to test that law and grant a new trial to a man who was convicted by a non-unanimous jury.
