Turkish authorities are still looking for the gunman, who killed 39 people in an attack on a New Year's celebration in Istanbul. ISIS claimed the attack on what it called a "pagan holiday."

Turkey is a country with long-standing tension between secular and religious currents. NPR international correspondent Peter Kenyon reports that violence has left secular Turks demoralized and scared.
