Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley stepped down Monday rather than face impeachment over allegations that he used campaign funds and state resources to hide an affair with his former aide. Bentley had denied those charges for more than a year, but on Monday he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges related to the case, and state legislators began impeachment proceedings.
