Japan and the European Union are expected to announce a trade agreement on Thursday, one day ahead of the G-20 Summit on Friday in Hamburg, Germany.

The agreement has been in the works for years, and could heavily impact the automobile industry, among others. It also comes as a step forward for free trade policies at a time when the U.S. administration seems to be stepping back from existing trade deals around the world.

Here & Now's Peter O’Dowd speaks with CNN's Maggie Lake (@maggielake).

This segment aired on July 5, 2017.
