Eleven-month-old Charlie Gard was born with an extremely rare genetic condition called mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome. The hospital charged with caring for the young British boy says nothing more can be done and that it's time to take him off life support. But his parents want to bring him to the United States for experimental treatment. Courts have decided in favor of the hospital.

Here & Now's Lisa Mullins speaks with STAT's Sharon Begley (@sxbegle) about the situation.

This segment aired on July 6, 2017.
